
- The origins of the band date back to December 1978 when "Silmarillion"
was formed by Mick Pointer and Doug Irvine. The other original members are not known.
Steve Rothery joined as guitarist on August 19, 1979. Brian Jelliman was added on
keyboards in October of '79. It was around this time, that the 'Sil' was dropped from the
band's name and "Marillion" was officially born. Throughout this time period,
various rehearsals and some live appearances took place, mostly at the
Grendon Underwood Village Hall in Buckinghamshire, England. Further details/dates
